Currently they are still very popular baby names for boys, though they were in more widespread use previously, and they are also considered trendy. In 1900, 33.184% of baby boys were given 1-syllable names. There were 188 1-syllable names ranked within the top 1000 baby names then. 1-syllable names have since experienced a decline in frequency. In 2016, 146 1-syllable names listed among the top 1000, with a combined usage of 9.188%, having regained their popularity somewhat in the recent decade. Within all 1-syllable names, the English and Hebrew James was the most commonly used, with a ranking of #5 and a usage of 0.7355%.
