Boy Names of German language or origin

German names for baby boys, related also with germanic, with 6018 entries. Like the German language, German names contain some very distinct consonants, which give traditional favorites like Luka, Otto and Ingrid their characteristic German quality. However, not all names well-loved in Deutschland are throat-scratchingly harsh – Mia, e.g., is a popular diminutive that interestingly is of Hebrew origin.

German names are all-time favorites. Currently they are still very popular baby names for boys, though they were in more widespread use previously. At the height of their usage in 1946, 50.166% of baby boys were given German names. There were 220 German names ranked within the top 1000 baby names then. German names have since experienced a decline in frequency, but are nonetheless used on a very heavy scale now. In 2018, 183 German names listed among the top 1000, with a combined usage of 23.552%. Within all German names, the English, Gaelic, and Irish Liam was the most commonly used, with a ranking of #1 and a usage of 1.0284%.
