Carol Channing gained popularity with her poofy blonde hair, lovely smile, pink lipstick, and loud and hoarse voice. She carved out a place in Broadway with her trademark role as the gold-digging Lorelei Lee in ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ (1953). She noted that her mother became a pivotal figure in her career. She always told her, ‘You’re revolting. And on top of that, you’re not very feminine.” Well, that led me to the stage, which is an accepting and comfortable place. So in a way, I have my mother to thank.’

When she passed away, her ashes were scattered around San Francisco, California.
