Jackie Chan is a multi-awarded actor, martial artist, and producer from Hong Kong. The prolific star of the ‘Rush Hour’ (1998-) movies, he secured a place in cinematic history as ‘perhaps the most recognized star in the world’, as attested by film scholar Andrew Willis. In 2016, he ranked as the second-highest paid actor in the world.
Born Kong Sang that translates to ‘Born in Hong Kong,’ his parents fondly called him Pao Pao as a child because of his high energy. He was also known as Sing Lung, which means ‘Already a Dragon’. While studying in Australia, he worked as a construction worker. Because they couldn’t pronounce his real name, his fellow builder named Jack nicknamed him ‘Little Jack’, which eventually became Jackie.
Although known for his innumerable stunt acts, he is known for fearing needles. He also has a policy for steering clear of villain roles, turning down Jet Li and Sylvester Stallone’s requests to appear in their films as a villain.
