Patty Duke gained fame and attention for playing both roles of Cathy and Patty Lane on her show ‘The Patty Duke Show’. She also pursued film acting and appeared in ‘The Miracle Worker’ (1962) as Helen Keller. This performance gave her an Academy Award.

Her former managers John and Ethel Ross changed her name from Anna Marie to ‘Patty’ in hopes that she would be successful just like the celebrity Patty McCormack. To her friends, she was Anna Pearce, which had her married last name.

She underwent a hysterectomy since she was at high risk for contracting cervical cancer.
