Sofia Vergara studied dentistry at a university in Colombia but left two semesters away from getting her degree to pursue modeling and show business. She made her first appearance in a Pepsi commercial aired in Latin America when she was 17 years old. She was a runway model at age 23 and co-hosted a travel show ‘Fuera de serie’ (1995-1998) which gave her exposure in the United States. Her first leading role was in the film ‘The Three Stooges’ in 2011, the same year she was named the face of CoverGirl. She has roles in the films ‘The Smurfs’ (2011), ‘Chef (2014)’, and ‘Hot Pursuit’ (2015). Sofia Vergara had a voice-over role in the animated films ‘Happy Feet Two’ (2011), ‘Escape from Planet Earth’ (2013) and ‘The Emoji Movie’ (2017). Forbes declared her as the world’s highest-paid TV actress in 2019.

Her middle name Margarita is also her mother’s name.

During her guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2014, she revealed that she had become a United States citizen after getting a perfect score on her citizenship test.
