Tom Hanks achieved wide recognition in his portrayal of the Krakozhia citizen named Viktor Navorski who got stuck at the the New York airport for nine months in the movie, ‘The Terminal’ (2004). He is an active benefactor of Lifeline Energy, an organization that distributes solar media players to South African children who, in an interesting turn of events, became celebrated during the International Tom Hanks Day every April 7.

After his unforgettable role in the ’Apollo 13A ’ (1995) and as a staunch advocate of the NASA’s manned space program, the ‘Asteroid 12818 Tomhanks’ was named after him.

Hanks lived a vagabond life as a child who moved to 10 different homes in five years. Had Tom Hanks not become an actor, he would be an astronaut. A Chabot College undergrad, he continually gives back to his non-profit alma mater Chabot Space and Science Center to further inspire students about space.
