Tommy Hilfiger was an immensely popular American fashion designer who built his namesake brand Tommy Hilfiger using his signature red, white, and blue tag. He started designing in the 1980s and took off into the stratosphere of fame and fashion in 1984 when he designed his own men’s sportswear line. He served as a guest judge on the finale of Project Runway: All-Stars along with Ken Downing and as a fashion consultant to contestants on season 11 of American Idol in 2012. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Marc Anthony Collection (2012) and won numerous awards including ‘Menswear Designer of the Year’ in 1995 and the ‘Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award’ both from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

A self-professed rock and roll fan, Hilfiger’s collections are often influenced and marketed in connection with the music industry. He sponsored several musical events since 1993 including Britney Spears ‘Baby One More Time’ Tour and Lenny Kravitz’s Freedom Tour in 1999.

He shared his extraordinary life in a memoir called ‘American Dreamer: My Life in Fashion and Business’ he co-authored with Peter Knobler and published by Ballantine Books in 2016.
