Element-themed names can be names that have the meaning of any one of the four elements in ancient Greek philosophy and science. Specifically, they are fire, earth, water, air. In Indian and Chinese thought, wood and metal are additional elements in their interpretation of the elemental philosophy. Element names are all-time favorites. Currently they are still very popular baby names for boys, though they were in more widespread use previously. At the height of their usage in 1923, 64.274% of baby boys were given Element names. There were 355 Element names ranked within the top 1000 baby names then. Element names have since experienced a decline in frequency, but are nonetheless used on a very heavy scale now. In 2017, 351 Element names listed among the top 1000, with a combined usage of 41.972%.
