Hebrew Baby Names

Hebrew is an old Semitic language in use from around 2000 BC. The Old Testament of the Bible was written in Classical Hebrew, which was later replaced gradually by Aramaic and various dialects after the Babylonian exile of the Jews in the 6th century BC. Modern Hebrew was revived in the 19th century as the official language of Israel.

Hebrew names for baby boys, with 1122 entries. Hebrew names are very popular baby names for boys. At the height of their usage in 1947, 14.812% of baby boys were given Hebrew names. There were 35 Hebrew names ranked within the top 1000 baby names then. Hebrew names have since experienced a decline in frequency, but are nonetheless used on a very heavy scale now. In 2016, 52 Hebrew names listed among the top 1000, with a combined usage of 11.035%. Within all Hebrew names, the English, German, Hebrew, and Slavic Noah was the most commonly used, with a ranking of #1 and a usage of 0.9465%.
