At the height of their usage in 1946, 15.229% of baby boys were given R- names. There were 79 R- names ranked within the top 1000 baby names then. R- names have since experienced a decline in frequency, but in recent years they are nonetheless of very heavy use. In 2018, 62 R- names listed among the top 1000, with a combined usage of 3.304%.
