Greek names for baby girls, with 7866 entries. As one of the oldest languages in the world, Greek names are rich in history and culture. Some popular Greek girl names such as Sophia and Penelope are drawn from mythical goddesses and epic heroines.
Greek names are very popular as baby girl names. Their usage peaked in 1915 with 6.367% of baby girls being given Greek names. Within the top 1000 baby names then, there were 30 Greek names. The names have slipped in popularity since then, but nevertheless are currently of very heavy use. In 2018, their total usage was 3.372% with 32 Greek names listed among the top 1000. Among all Greek names, Sophia (English, German, Greek, Italian, and Russian) was the most widely used, with a ranking of #5 and a usage of 0.7545%.
