Girl Names of Spanish usage or origin

Spanish names for baby girls, with 1181 entries. Spain is the largest country in Southern Europe and the fourth largest in the European Union today. It is a country that has extended its influence far beyond its physical borders. The Spanish empire was a colonial force to be reckoned with from the 14th to 17th centuries with their conquest of the Americas. Spanish also is the second most widely spoken language in the world as a mother tongue, after Mandarin Chinese. Due to the wide usage of Spanish, Spanish names have also been an influence in the Latin American countries, which are predominantly Spanish-speaking.

Spanish names are classic favorites. Today they are still very popular as baby girl names, but not as much as they were in the past. Their usage peaked in 1948 with 17.674% of baby girls being given Spanish names. Within the top 1000 baby names then, there were 99 Spanish names. The names have slipped in popularity since then, but they are nevertheless of very heavy use in recent times. In 2016, their total usage was 8.632% with 94 Spanish names listed among the top 1000. Among all Spanish names, Emma (English, Armenian, Catalan, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Scandinavian, and Spanish) was the most popular, with a ranking of #1 and a usage of 1.0108%.
